34th Annual Golf Classic A Success!

Northeast Catholic Alumni 34th Annual Golf Classic

The 34th Golf Classic sponsored by the Northeast Catholic Alumni Association to benefit the Memorial Scholarship Fund was again a huge success.  We would like to thank all of the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and the staff at the North Hills Country Club for helping us raise money for the Northeast Catholic Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This year we added a Major Sponsorship category, and Joe Hand Promotions provided additional support and boost in our fund-raising efforts for the Scholarship Fund.  Joe Hand, Sr. ‘54 (who recently passed away) donated $10,000 to the Memorial Scholarship Fund, duplicating his donation from last year.  Joe Hand Promotion was also a Gold Sponsor, and their foursome included Joe Hand, Jr., who provided thankful wishes to the alumni and its efforts for this worthy cause. Mr. Hand senior would be very proud.

Along with the many long-time loyal supporters of the golf outing, we acknowledge Frank Byrne ‘65, of Byrne’s Tavern as a major sponsor for the golf carts, and Jim Cirillo ‘64 for providing the Wildwood Elks Club sponsoring of the cocktail hour.

Many thanks go out to all the members of the Golf Committee including Larry Keefe’57, Jack Devine `69, Dave Shafie `90, Joe Pilawsky `71, Greg Massi `73, Ed Webster `77, Mike Kaiser `73, Joe Kaiser `66, Jim Cirillo `64, Brian Devine `80, Ray Zawisza `76, John Peteraf `70 and Mike O’Brien.  Other members of the Alumni Association who pitched in were Executive Secretary Steve Cardullo, `72, President Jim Kelly `70, and Jeff Brown `79.  We also thank Barbara Ambacher for her work with the Putting Contest. Thanks go to Colleen Moten and Rachel Morgan for their work with the silent auction and 50/50 tickets sales.

Former Flyer and author Mr. Chris Therien, was again part of our golf classic as a member of the Jerry O’Connor `75 foursome, and in honor of Jim O’Connor `73, who passed away April 26th of this year.

We would like to thank the Fr Jack Kolodziej, OSFS '87, the Oblate Provincial of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province for giving the pre-tee off blessing, as well as Fr Joe Campellone, OSFS, for giving a blessing before dinner.

Once again the staff at North Hills Country Club, particularly PGA HOF Mr. Jack Connelly who provided all of the assistance in making sure the Northeast Catholic Golf Classic was a success. We Thank You!
